Step into the heart of South Florida’s wildest places for a three-day retreat designed to reconnect you with the land, your body, and your story.
Hosted by Sydney Williams, author of Hiking Your Feelings: Blazing a Trail to Self-Love and founder of Hiking My Feelings/Wellness in the Wilderness, this immersive experience blends environmental stewardship, mindful movement, and self-discovery across Biscayne and Everglades National Parks. Participants will engage in meaningful service through a shoreline cleanup on Elliott Key, explore the unique ecosystems of South Florida by foot and kayak, and reconnect to themselves through guided reflection and community discussions.
From paddling the mangrove estuaries of Florida Bay with NPS rangers to wading through the ancient cypress domes on a naturalist-led wet walk, every moment is an invitation to slow down, tune in, and remember our place in the ecosystem. Mornings begin with mindfulness, evenings wind down under the stars, and meals nourish both body and connection.
Whether you’re seeking purpose, healing, or simply a deeper relationship with the natural world, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to listen to yourself, to the land, and to the stories that live in both.
A Glimpse on What’s Ahead
Day 1: Arrival & Coastal Stewardship
- Our retreat begins at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center in Biscayne National Park, where we will welcome and check in with all participants. Participants will gather and get acquainted with the group and facilitators.
- We’ll then embark on a scenic boat ride to Elliott Key, the park’s largest island, where we will engage in a meaningful beach cleanup effort while deepening our understanding of the park’s rich ecological and cultural history.
- Following our stewardship activity, we’ll journey to Everglades National Park and settle into our Eco-Tents at Flamingo Campground, our home base for the remainder of the retreat.
Day 2: Immersion in the Everglades
- Our morning begins with a Ranger-led kayaking experience across the waters of Florida Bay, offering a unique perspective on the park’s marine ecosystems and wildlife.
- In the afternoon, we’ll venture into the heart of the Everglades on an immersive Cypress Dome Wet Walk, a great opportunity to explore one of the park’s most enchanting and biodiverse landscapes. Be ready to get wet!
- We’ll close the day by returning to our Eco-Tents to relax and reflect beneath the stars.
Day 3: Exploration & Farewell
- After breakfast, we’ll pack up and head to the 3-in-1 Trail, where we’ll hike through a variety of Everglades habitats—pinelands, hardwood hammocks, and wetlands—experiencing the park’s ecological diversity one last time.
- Our retreat concludes at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, where we’ll share final thoughts before parting ways.
